Look out! Things I love on Sunday...

... I'm sure most of you have seen this but OH MAN. I'm so excited and nervous and the part where she's falling through the rabbit hole gives me goose bumps. Save the date people, I will be having a late birthday party/mad hatter tea party and then dragging everyone to the IMAX to see this thing in 3D. Be prepared!

... I think that's all for today. I have to get up and moving... I'm going to visit the San Jose Museum of Art with my lovely friend Chris and pick up some art supplies. I've been SO busy for almost a week now and I'm ready for some time to myself. I haven't seen Sean for more than an hour since Sunday and I haven't picked up my knitting since Friday! I have two more busy days ahead and then one day to myself. I hope next week will be a little calmer so that I may create and re-energize.

Why I Am Not a Painter by Frank O'Hara

I am not a painter, I am a poet.
Why? I think I would rather be
a painter, but I am not. Well,

for instance, Mike Goldberg
is starting a painting. I drop in.
"Sit down and have a drink" he
says. I drink; we drink. I look
up. "You have SARDINES in it."
"Yes, it needed something there."
"Oh." I go and the days go by
and I drop in again. The painting
is going on, and I go, and the days
go by. I drop in. The painting is
finished. "Where's SARDINES?"
All that's left is just
letters, "It was too much," Mike says.

But me? One day I am thinking of
a color: orange. I write a line
about orange. Pretty soon it is a
whole page of words, not lines.
Then another page. There should be
so much more, not of orange, of
words, of how terrible orange is
and life. Days go by. It is even in
prose, I am a real poet. My poem
is finished and I haven't mentioned
orange yet. It's twelve poems, I call
it ORANGES. And one day in a gallery
I see Mike's painting, called SARDINES.

Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday weekend! We've been exploring under the sea, partying with friends that feel like family, re-arranging the living room (again), working on a lovely shawl, and getting hair cuts.

Tomorrow I'm looking forward to time to myself in this re-invented space to get myself organized and in my zen place.

I have so many lovelies to share today!

Firstly...

One of my favorite daily rituals is to walk the property to take a break from work and stress stuff. I'm always steppng on these lovely pine cones and recently decided to start collecting them to use as fire starters. They work brilliantly unaltered, but I thought it would be fun to spruce them up a bit.

I collected a big bag of dry and relatively clean pine cones. I gathered old candles, and some tea I like the smell of but not the taste of. I also grabbed my hemp.

I tied a piece of hemp to each pine cone, in order to dip the cones into the hot wax without burning my fingers.

Then I dipped! In between coats I sprinkled the contents of a few chai tea bags onto the wet wax. I let them dry, and then did another few coats. All in all I think they work best with four coats of yummy smelling wax.

I used an old pickle jar to package them for the neighbors.

Scrapbooking supplies finish off the label, and a wax dipped pine branch is used as a garnish of sorts. Now all they need to do is surround the pine cone with kindling, light the wick, and sit back with some hot chocolate!

This was a fun project, if not a bit messy.

I painted this painting for Sean. I finally did that. He loves it.

These two lovelies are for my brother and for Mikey. Gabe gave me a couple old decks, and Ally and I worked on the painting part.

I like this one the best. Gabe liked it, too. Happy birthday Gabe!

This one was for Mikey... He likes to surf so I just rearranged the previous pin up girl to look like she's laying down.

Inspiration.

I painted today!!

I love when creativity hits me from behind and knocks me flat with the sheer genius of it.

I stayed in baggy jeans and a tee, with my hair (unruly today) swept up into a silk scarf and paint under my fingernails. I ate left over sushi, I used brilliant colors, I drank green and oolong tea.

The one above is from a picture Sean took a couple of years ago. He calls it "Life's a beach." I like to call it "Between the clouds." It will probably be a Christmas present for out landlords. They have a lovely shade of yellow on the walls of their living room and I think this will look grand hanging on it.

This one is called "February" or "Fire Roll and Cherry Blossoms". This is by far one of my favorite paintings I've ever done. It may not resonate within everyone, but the different textures and colors and ideas right next to each other are just perfect for me. This one very well may be a Christmas present for my lovely friend Chris Marks. He has my other favorite painting I've ever done, too. Seems fitting that this one should reside with him as well.

I'm also seriously considering having some prints made of these and putting them on etsy.com. I've been wanting to put some things together to sell, but I'm dragging my feet.

These are the first 2008 paintings I've kept in my possession for more than a few days.
