Things I am Guilty of...
I wrote a list recently in my real life journal of things I'm guilty of.
I am guilty of buying really expensive bath products.
I am guilty of standing in the shower with my face under the water stream until my cheeks go numb.
I am guilty of drinking too many cups of tea in the morning.
I am guilty of buying novels I have no intention of reading for a really long time.
of not being able to relax into a moment
of coveting images of yoga rooms when I hardly even practice anymore.
of starting too many knitting projects at a time and then getting overwhelmed when I have too many projects to finish.
of wearing my slippers all day long.
of taking too many pictures of my cats.
What are some harmless things you are guilty of?
P.S. New tea flavor.

list five: Movies I can watch over and over again...
(Note: These are not necessarily my favorite movies, just the ones that get stuck in my DVD player for days/weeks at a time. I have a bad habit of falling asleep with a movie on in the background... And it's usually the same movie every night until Sean mentions pointedly that we've been watching the same movie every night for about 19 days now and isn't it time for a new one?)
- Julie and Julia (this one is a new addition)
- Garden State (Hi Gabe and Jac!)
- His Girl Friday
- Monsters Inc
- Bread and Tulips (this one is in Italian and when I dream I dream in romantic languages)
- Stranger Than Fiction
- Lost In Translation (there is something amazing about this movie)
- Spanglish
- Mary Poppins
- Alice in Wonderland (my favorite favorite favorite (!!!) Disney movie)
- Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

list four: My Favorite Poems
* Why I Am Not a Painter
By Frank O'Hara
I am not a painter, I am a poet.
Why? I think I would rather be
a painter, but I am not. Well,
for instance, Mike Goldberg
is starting a painting. I drop in.
“Sit down and have a drink” he
says. I drink; we drink. I look
up. “You have SARDINES in it.”
“Yes, it needed something there.”
“Oh.” I go and the days go by
and I drop in again. The painting
is going on, and I go, and the days
go by. I drop in. The painting is
finished. “Where’s SARDINES?”
All that’s left is just
letters, “It was too much,” Mike says.
But me? One day I am thinking of
a color: orange. I write a line
about orange. Pretty soon it is a
whole page of words, not lines.
Then another page. There should be
so much more, not of orange, of
words, of how terrible orange is
and life. Days go by. It is even in
prose, I am a real poet. My poem
is finished and I haven’t mentioned
orange yet. It’s twelve poems, I call
it ORANGES. And one day in a gallery
I see Mike’s painting, called SARDINES.
* Love after Love
by Derek Walcott
The time will come
When, with elation,
You will greet yourself arriving
At your own door, in your own mirror,
And each will smile at the other’s welcome,
And say, sit here, Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
To itself, to the stranger who has loved you
All your life, whom you ignored
For another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
The photographs, the desperate notes,
Peel your image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
* Sleeping in the Forest
by Mary Oliver
I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts,
her pockets full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before,
a stone on the riverbed,
nothing between me
and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts,
and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms
breathing around me, the insects, and the birds
who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling
with a luminous doom.
By morning I had vanished at least a dozen times into something better.

magic
If five days of sushi doesn't sound magical to you, I don't know what will.
I've spent the past week wrapped in a cocoon of love and gratitude for being here and twenty-four.
There have been days spent browsing bookstores aimlessly, using birthday discounts at my favorite yarn store, exploring unfamiliar territory, and lots and lots of sushi. I'm adoring the storm clouds and the predictability of the February blues, spending hours reading old favorites (how much do you love searching your shelves for books to lend to a friend and finding one you know you have to re-read immediately?), casting on frivolous projects, and forgetting the rhythm of work and school (temporarily).
I've been blissfully counting the pretty things from my 24th year and dreaming of the magic in 25.
In light of my 24 reasons from last year, here's 25 reasons it's good to be having a 25th birthday.
1. I perfected my pineapple upside down cake recipe. (I will share this with you soon, promise.)
2. Tuna casserole night.
3. I've started a successful etsy shop full of pretty woolen things.
4. Speaking of... I learned to spin and got a wheel!
5. I've met some really really beautiful people through my online presence and my shop. (I LOVE MY CUSTOMERS!! Have you met Chantel, Audrey, Sosae, and Wanda to name just a handful?)
6. I have placed more kitties into forever homes than I can count.
7. Learning how to dye.
8. The opportunity to change, grow, and nourish.
9. Farmer's markets, oh the beauty of shopping at farmer's markets.
10. New camping destinations.
11. In the past year I've reduced my carbon footprint by using only re-usable bags and bring my own containers to restaurants for leftovers. It feels good to do good.
12. Julie and Julia. LOVE.
13. Heavenly Cafe
14. I'm old enough to make educated decisions about when it is appropriate to eat cake. Like for breakfast and afternoon tea. And Tuesdays. That's a skill that will serve me for life.
15. Mops, Huck, Stuey, and Geoffrey. And Sean. And the rest.
16. My favorite etsy shops... moonrover, lushmommy, cloudlover, forstrangewomen, and so so so many more. They make my day... So full of inspiration!
17. Our ever changing view.
18. Tea. All different kinds of tea. And sourdough toast.
19. Dreams for the future. These are an incredible thing because anything is possible... There are no closed doors.
20. The ability to sleep in. When you're a night owl like me this one is never taken for granted.
21. My yarn was on the front page of etsy!
22. Running my own business. Even if I am the toughest boss I've ever had.
23. Learning.
24. I got to go strawberry picking.
25. Next year, 26 reasons.
So thank you, 24, and here's to you, 25! May you be a year filled with accomplishment, change, and magic.
Oh, and I finished Mops' sweater. He likes it.

A new rhythm...
We've begun to settle into a new kind of home. This home only has two kitties, but they are well loved. There are less cuddles to go around, but the lobster doesn't have to sleep with his feet hanging off the bed. There are less kitty kisses that smell like cat food and chives, but my window garden is growing.
Today I'm feeling much more emotionally capable... The dishes have been done, the lobster is home from his trip (useless, because he's sore, dehydrated and exhausted, but home.), a decision has been made (we're staying in this humble abode until the end of the year... YAY!), and I've thrown myself back into school and work.
Speaking of work... Shop news.

First, my yarn was featured on the front page of etsy! Oh my goodness! That's me, in the bottom right hand corner... my pretty bamboo yarn, Rumpelstiltskin.
Second, fiber club spots are going to open in the middle of February for March, April, and May.
Third, Fiber update has been postponed a week or two, look for it before Valentine's Day.
I think that's all the shop news for now... Things have been slow there on my end (not on yours, though! I reached my monetary sales goal for January and I'll be making a huge donation to Docs w/o Borders tomorrow... I'll let you know the total when I tally it all up. You guys rock.) but I'm hoping to pick things back up this week.
In other news... Are you ready to die from the cute?

I knit this little creature up last week for my bff and she loved him. I used leftover sock yarn and size 1 needles that made my fingers want to fall off, but he is totally worth it. Here is the pattern (rav link) for those interested. The pattern was really well written and easy to follow... All of the shaping is done with short rows! So clever.
A bit of blog news...
I'm still working (in between other types of work like homework and design work) on the kinks here on the blog so be patient with me. The side bars are still a mess and the navigation bar isn't working yet, and I noticed an issue with comment spacing. Be patient with me! :)
I've decided to add a new weekly feature... I want to try 52 lists this year. Once a week until next January, similar to hulaseventy (add this blog to your follow list immediately. She is so inspiring!) and borrowing prompts from listography.com.
And I promise to bring back "Things I Love" soon.
I think that's it for me right now... Sean and I have a big night of burritos and Netflix planned. What are you guys up to this fine and sunny Sunday?

Happy Needless Turkey Murder Day!
Things I'm thankful for this holiday:
... Peanut butter and jelly waffle sandwiches.
... Infestations of cute!
... Tofu.
... Netflix and The Big Lebowski.
... My momma who made me buy glasses so my eyes could have a rest when I forget to change my contacts after a month and then rip one and realize I'm completely out of back up disposables.
... Spaghetti and meatless balls.
... Po' Girl, The Kooks, and Free Design
... Spending a traditionally exhausting day at home with the radio on and the windows open.
... Really good books (and re-reading old favorites).
... Tomorrow.
... My family (and their non-judgmental reaction to "I'm just going to stay home on Thanksgiving and cook the lobster dinner.").
... Etsy sales.
... Kitten kisses.
... All of the beautiful people of mine that were born in November (Happy birthday to all of you!).
... And the beautiful people that were not.
... Our home and the natural beauty that surrounds us. And the fact that we can live here with two dogs, three cats, and a litter of kittens.
... Speaking of a zoo of animals, I'm grateful for Marvin who sleeps on my pillow and licks my hair, Stuey who uses me to get to Sean, and Geoffrey, my buddy, who hangs out next to me on the couch all day. And for Mops and his annoying bark and cute flirtatious tendencies, and Huckleberry's howl and sweet face.
... And for you, dear readers.
I hope your day is full of warmth and glow and full bellies and laughter. Happy Thanksgiving.

My to do list...
... Makes me happy.
To Do:
• Dye four more braids of roving before Sunday (sold three from my shop today, thanks Rebecca Jay Studios!)
• Help Ally scoop out pumpkins
• Make pumpkin seeds
• Spin two 2 ply yarns for the shop by Sunday
• Send out (the 15th sale) etsy sale and swap packages
• Build up inventory for my first solo craft fair in December
• Go to the pumpkin patch with the lobster
• Print out yarn and roving labels
• Create a spread sheet to better manage etsy/craft fair sales (because it's becoming more than a little side hobby and I'm so happy!)
• Study Nutrition and History for mid terms in two weeks
• Go to the fabric store
• Kiss this face repeatedly
I'm so happy that this is my reality right now. I know the coming months are going to be stressful (holiday season and all... Plus some rather large decisions to be made and finances are always tight in November and December.) but with this sort of to do list who wouldn't be smiling?

I love it when...

You go to the bookstore after a sushi dinner and score a favorite book (that you dropped in the bathtub about 3 years ago) on the used shelf for only $4.00.
You find $20.00 in your pocket left over from farmer's day. And wrapped in the bill is a flower petal you found particularly beautiful.
When you're woken in the morning by your honey putting a kitten on your pillow.
You change the sheets, shave your legs and curl up with some tea and some knitting and then it starts to rain.
When you find a recipe for hot buttered rum that uses the crock pot.
When your day off turns into a day at the zoo.

TGIF
Trusting...
That our camping trip next week will be just what I need to refresh. That September will bring fall weather sooner rather than later. That even when you think nothing is happening, stars are aligning.
Grateful for...
Etsy sales.
Ceiling fans.
Great movies.
For time spent creating.
Someone else doing the dishes.
Inspired by...
Groovy color combinations.
Dragonflies.
Dixie Chicks.
Whimsical and lovely knitting projects.
Peter Pan and Alice and the fact that they could be friends.

These things, they make my heart sing.
This is I love:
... And this:

This yarn:

Coconut Records rocks my world.
Everything in this shop makes me want to be a super cool skater chick.

Very very very beautiful drop spindles.

That's all for now! I'm going on vacation next week and I can't wait for Sunday morning to get here. We'll get up early, stop and get some coffee (in our cool new cups), and drive drive drive until we find someplace far enough away to satiate our thirst for something else. Hopefully I can cross something else off the list when we get there. Wish me luck!

In six days of absence...
I updated my etsy shop with some lovely yarn.
I spun my first fingering/sport weight yarn... 323 yards of it! It's Merino/Tencel dyed by Greenwood Fiberworks on etsy (she's one of my favorite sellers... Amazing colors and intense saturation). It turned out really really well, except as I was re-skeining (for the third time... It's a long story) the yarn broke in two places and in my frustration I tied it together (the horror!!) so it's not sell worthy. Which is fine because I think it will make a beautiful little lacy baktus.

I saw Julie and Julia and loved it intensely. Then Mr Lobster and I went to explore a new restaurant and were blown away. I love new. New is good.
We had a little barbeque with a few friends (during which I did not pick up my camera once).
I got a new cup.

And that's all.
I've been feeling under the weather a bit, but today feels like a day of renewal. September is in the air and a vacation is on the horizon. Just exactly what I need. :) Stay tuned for the Sunday loves I neglected to post on Sunday (gotta get around to picking a better day for that!) and some blog and etsy related news!

What is up with the world this week?
Seems like everyone is having a difficult week... Is Mercury in retrograde or something? (I have no idea of that would cause unrest but it sounded like I did, didn't it?)
In an attempt to cheer myself up, behold a list of reasons why I think my life is pretty today:

... I have this great friend, Ashley, who likes to send me AWESOME stuff in the mail and bless me with blog awards... Have I told you enough how much I appreciate your packages? They make my week. This week was a bloody fantastic necklace and some gen maicha tea (plus an assortment of other lovelies)!!! My favorite.
... We re-arranged the bedroom to fit our new bed better. Look Sean's handicraft produced from an old bookcase!
... It's September. That means that fall is coming, then winter is coming and I love winter. Rain and tea and holidays and coziness and comfort... YUM.
... I have drawers and drawers of yarn and roving to play with. In fact, I think today I'll finish up some handspun two-ply in fall colors for a swap. Lovely.
... We're having tuna casserole for dinner. Does it get better than that?
I swear a real blog post is coming... Hang in there.

Things I Love on Sunday (on Friday)
Okay, doubly lovely post today because I neglected you last week and this week I'll be gone on Sunday. :) Here we go!
... Friends the TV show. This is no surprise to anyone who knows me, but in this time of subtle transition and stagnation, comfort is important.

... Summer reading. Not pictured are: The End of Mr. Y, Gluten Free Girl, and Orlando (I have a problem starting a book and then with getting irritated by the fact that I could have equally started any other book I haven't read. So I do.) What are you reading?

... You might as well kill me with cuteness!! Because I'll be broke buying every single one of these Harry Potter mice for my mom's Christmas tree.

... Why yes, yes I do.

... Hoarding some lovely handspun yarn until one day I will have too many skeins and will put some up in my shop. This is single ply merino/tencel which I call Blueberry Muffin, and the bottom one is 2-ply merino entitled Strawberries and Cream with Choco Drizzle. MMmmmMmm!

... I love EVERYTHING in this shop.

... More awesome headphones! Oh no!

... Oh yeah, I got some of my own and now I'm a cool kid. :D I love them.

... Speaking of headphones... Did you KNOW about this??? On repeat for the last week. Tracks I love: You've Got a Hold on Me, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, and Sentimental Heart. What could be better than M. Ward and Zooey and a WHOLE CD of their goodness?!

Okay you beauties, that's enough for now. Hope you found something here that you liked, too!

What I've been up to.
Since my days are not filled with homework and studying right now, it's been full of other things.
Like...
... Spinning spinning spinning! And spending WAY too much money on fiber. I'm getting pretty good at this, though. Planning on adding a few of these lovelies to my shop so that I may buy more fiber! Yay!

... Painting my bedroom. Remember this teal wall didn't go with the new carpet? It's light sage now and it matches the dark olive carpet beautifully.

... Been farmer's market-ing a whole bunch! My favorite vendor at the market is the beautiful and ancient latina women who sells the flowers. She has the most amazing memory and knows exactly who I am every week. When she sees me coming she smiles the most beautiful smile and asks me "What's your favorite color today?" I answer, she points to whatever beautiful bouquet she has in whatever silly color I mentioned and she says "These are okay for your cat to eat!"

... My other favorite part of the farmer's market is perfecting recipes with the freshest ingredients. I'll share this rice and feta stuffed artichoke recipe later on. YUM.

... Took a little camping trip to the lake with my family.
... And reading! It's so lovely! I'm in the middle of about 4 or 5 really good books right now and it's nice to escape from my (oh so difficult and terrible :-P ) life.
Okay, you may return to your regularly scheduled programming... I'm going back to spinning. :)

Oh dear.
I forgot to tell you that I was going to be away yesterday and now you're on the edge of your seat for the Things I Love on Sunday post! Oh whatever shall we do?
Let's get started, shall we?
... I love that my house didn't burn down. Thank you firemen and women and police and all! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for not letting this life (this tale, these pets, this dream) get taken away and turned into a less pretty one.
... My lovely sister's hospitality! My love and I went on a mini road trip to SLO to visit and it was sooo nice to get away from it all for a bit!

... This glorious photo stream with the most inspiring home.

... Rocking this soundtrack these days thanks to the gift giving abilities of my darling little brother (who has the freaking cutest girlfriend ever, btw).

... This hat spotted by Jessi on Pink. I hope to cast on tonight since I finished my Porom (rav link) a few days ago (more details on that one a bit later)!

... This image by the beautiful bohogirl (who inspires me to no end) makes me so happy and long for that kind of style and life.

... I love these pretty headphones and will be purchasing them ASAP.

I think that's all for today. After a dusty camping trip over the weekend we have a lot of laundry and cleaning and errands and organizing to do today. Oh, and the giveaway shall be postponed (or maybe substituted to something already knit up) due to that fact. Sorry, but 7200 acre fires in my backyard take priority! :)
Hope you all have a great week!
... Oh! One last thing! Drool.
